I am writing this after completing the first coaching session. I was sent the scripts a few days before meeting with my voice coach. I practiced every day for about an hour. After reading the scripts to the coach he made a few suggestions and I would read again.
Boy did I put too much energy into the first read. My coach uses the positive reinforcement method. Lucky for me to because I need all the positive comments right now. It is not that I am insecure, but I am unsure of what I am doing. My backgroung is not in the entertainment field at all. I went to college and worked in an office with other professionals with similar history. Then I was I was let go. I am sure you are all aware of the resssion and all. For me to change careers is very challenging and scary at the same time. So the positive reinforcement really works for me. I am blessed with a great coach.
At the end of the session I was given tips on what to work on for the next session. Here is the biggest tip I was given "sound conversational". That's it. I am to talk as if I am having a conversation with someone - not delivering a high energy sales pitch. Also I am to read something every day into my mic and record myself. This will help me to find the areas that need work and I will get used to hearing the sound of my recorded voice.
I think that my first session went well. I cant wait untill my next lession.
That's it for now all you fellow Voice Over talents. Stay tuned for the second lession.
Bye for now....
Thanks for sharing your experience of your first american voice overs coaching session. That is very interesting as well as knowledgeable for me. I hope you will post your next session experience also.
